Small things can make a huge difference: 1 rug and 3 cushions

This was our living room last week . . .

And this is what it looks like now . . .

One rug and three cushions and everything feels different. I hadn’t planned to do this, but never really loved the striped rug. And then I stumbled across this amazing raspberry Madeline Weinrib carpet on sale. The room is totally transformed and I absolutely love it. The raspberry rug not only has added an element of surprise and playfulness, the room also feels much bigger. The stripes emphasised the length of the space and unwittingly created a feeling that this was merely a passage to the rest of the house. Now, I love spending time being here.

Our bathroom has also undergone a radical transformation from clinical white to a dramatic and moody dark deep grey. I’ll post some photos tomorrow.

In the meantime, it is kinda interesting to reflect upon how, in life in general, small things can really make a huge difference.

  2. Kate, I am loving the BEFORE and AFTER aspect in your blog right now….it really has an impact. I feel like racing out and buying RUG right now, but it is only 7.00 am. Gertrude St is a huge inspiration…..x

Love the new colour in your bathroom…adds a bit more drama and really makes the print stand out…as Martin Lawerence Bullard would say “it’s delicious darling…”

    • Well, that’s that . . . if it’s delicious, darling, it will just have to stay. I never really loved the white room, it felt so clinical. I am quite excited about spicing the room up with some bright colour as well as finding a light fitting . . . out with the industrial shade and in with something more ornate and fun.

Just saw your before and afters… LOVE the new rug, divine colour, and like the grey too. Very striking, like the mix of grey with white, crisp but warm. Good effort with the paint pot.
