about
I’m Kate Challis and I live between Melbourne, Australia and Ubud, Bali with my husband and son. Urban Kaleidoscope is my take on living with beauty, soul and style.

This is an area I have been interested all my life. As a child I spent countless hours cutting pretty pictures out of magazines and pasting them into scrap books, rearranging and decorating my bedroom, setting the table for my mother’s lavish dinner parties and creating fantasy interiors in my vast attic bedroom which housed all our spare furniture. But like many people I didn’t pursue my passion professionally.
Over the years I busied myself writing a PhD (in early Renaissance Illuminated Manuscripts), opening up a business, teaching yoga, being a corporate facilitator and since 2009 being a full-time mother to a curious and active little boy. As much as I enjoyed my life something was gnawing away of me.
I didn’t know what it was, but I finally do. I realised that it wasn’t too late to occupy my myself with the things I love most in the world: spending time with my family and exploring my passion for design.
And when I have a spare moment I can be found on my yoga mat.

HI Kate, I was curious to know something more about you after corresponding about the house in Ubud, and found this blog. It seems as if you have created a nicely balanced lifestyle, combining time with your family, raising your son, establishing the yoga/breathing center,
and traveling — all this is a real accomplishment. I just wanted to say hello from Bearsville, part of Woodstock, nestled in the northern Catskill mountains, where it is also quite beautiful, surrounded by nature and good people.
UK’s new look is great, just love the photos of you and Jasper.
